The Information and Bibliography Department of the Republican Children's Library has prepared a database containing a full-text bibliographic list of books and periodical press materials about the poet, translator, doctor, critic, and publicist Abbas Sahhat, one of the 20th-century Azerbaijani classics, in honor of his 150th anniversary.
The presented database includes 26 works by Abbas Sahhat, as well as opinions of prominent figures such as Salman Mumtaz and Abdulla Shaig, along with 21 materials written about him in the periodical press.
Abbas Sahhat’s life and work are generally characterized by his protest against the oppression and injustices of the old world, his advocacy for freedom, and the ideals of social equality, as well as his call for a bright future.
Abbas Sahhat’s contributions to the development of Azerbaijani education and children’s literature are significant. A teacher for much of his life, from his youth until his later years, Sahhat created textbooks, wrote works for children and young people in various genres, and created some of the finest examples of national children's literature.
In addition to his literary work, Sahhat was also a translator who introduced the Azerbaijani reader to works by Russian (Lermontov, Pushkin, Maxim Gorky, etc.), French (Hugo, Musset, etc.), and German poets and writers.
Abbas Sahhat passed away on July 11, 1918, in Ganja.
