The Information and Bibliography Department of the Republican Children's Library has presented a bibliographic memory to virtual readers on the occasion of "July 22 – National Press and Journalism Day." The bibliographic memory includes the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, related to the 145th anniversary of National Press and Journalism Day, as well as books and periodical press articles available in the library's collection related to press and journalism.
On July 22, 1875, with the publication of the "Akinchi" newspaper by Hasan bey Zardabi, one of the prominent representatives of the enlightenment movement of the time, the foundation of Azerbaijani national press was laid. The newspaper, which operated for two years, published a total of 56 issues.
The press development policy initiated by the Great Leader is successfully continued today by our esteemed President, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. This policy, which reflects the creation of freedom of speech and thought in Azerbaijani journalism and the development of democracy, has led to Azerbaijan being recognized globally as a country that respects freedom of speech and human rights.
